My father, Nicola Vincenso DeAngelis, had his start in Italy, attending a dental technology school before getting a job at a local laboratory. In 1959, he moved to Chicago and quickly accepted a position at Standard Dental Laboratory as a denture technician. Despite having not yet mastered the English language, within a year he was made head of the denture department. Four years later, he left Standard and opened his own denture laboratory, Vincent Denture Clinic in Roseland, IL.
My dad exposed me to the dental laboratory environment early on. When I was in junior high, I spent my free time in the lab making custom trays and tending to other simple laboratory tasks.
