Smile Dental Lab and Smile Denture and Implant Clinic: Dual Growth Fuels Renovation

In 2015, Caner Karaceper earned his Denturism degree and opened Smile Denture and Implant Clinic in Ottawa, in the same building as Smile Dental Lab, owned by his father, Cengiz, and cousin, Burak. At first the arrangement was ideal: the businesses operated independently while sharing the lab’s on-site operatory/shade-taking room as well as the lab’s equipment and supplies.
However, after a few years, business was booming and both operations were growing quickly; by 2018, the 4,000-square-foot facility was feeling tight.
“We were bursting at the seams, maxed out on parking and ready for a bigger facility that would allow both of our businesses to spread their wings,” says Caner.
After a 12-month search, they bought a two-story, 10,000-square-foot building and began an 18-month, $1.2 million renovation. The lab and clinic moved into the new facility in August 2019, more than doubling their interior space and tripling the amount of parking.
