Former Bank Transformed into Stylish Laboratory

After 12 years in the same location, Wiand Dental Laboratory in Scottsdale, AZ, was ready for a new home. “We started out renting one suite and then, as we grew over the years, we kept adding additional suites, reconfiguring the space. Things had become really choppy,” says Beth Wiand, who co-owns the laboratory with her husband, Tom Wiand, CDT.

So, in 2021, when they found an affordable 6,500-square-foot commercial space in their neighborhood—a rarity in the tough Scottsdale real estate market—they pulled the trigger. After purchasing the building, a former bank, they began the year-long process of renovating the space.

With a demo permit in hand, they worked with a commercial contractor to gut the entire interior, including digging trenches in the floor to accommodate piping for the vacuum and plumbing systems, and tearing down walls and ceilings.
