  • New Courses and Price for Lab Technicians at 33rd Annual AACD Scientific Session in Las Vegas

    An expanded lab technician track, featuring two full days of education on the latest techniques and materials from top dental technicians in the field, will be included at the 33rd Annual AACD Scientific Session to be held April 18-21, 2017, at the Venetian Resort Hotel & Casino.

    The lab technician track will take place Thursday, April 20 and Friday, April 21 and will include the following educators: Jed Archibald, CDT; John Archibald, CDT; James Choi; Miles Cone, DMD, CDT; Arian Deutsch, CDT; Von Grow; Leon Hermanides, CDT; Nelson A.   • Federal Judge Suspends Overtime Rule Set to Take Effect December 1st

    A federal judge issued a nationwide injunction on November 22nd, blocking an overtime regulation that, as of December 1st, would have qualified millions more Americans for overtime pay. U.S. District Judge Amos Mazzant agreed with 21 states and a coalition of business groups, including the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, ruling that the Department of Labor had exceeded its authority by raising the overtime salary limit so significantly.

    Under the new regulations, the salary limit below which workers automatically qualified for overtime pay would rise to $47,476 from $23,660. Some workers whose salaries exceed the threshold would qualify for overtime pay depending on job duties. (See details on the overtime regulations here.)

    In September, Zimmer Biomet celebrated the grand opening of its completely renovated, 20,000-sq-ft facility in Carlsbad, CA.     The United States FDA has issued a 510(k) clearance for 3Shape Abutment Designer, a functionality within 3Shape Dental System CAD/CAM software.

    The 510(k) clearance covers all implant cases being designed using 3Shape Dental System software.  A 3Shape Abutment Designer and/or Implant Bridge and Bars license is needed to use the functionality.

    The Foundation for Dental Laboratory Technology (The Foundation) announces the winners of the first-ever 2016 NADL University Grant:

    Heraeus Kulzer, along with the Foundation for Dental Laboratory Technology, created this grant in order to support the Foundation’s purpose by making higher-level education and dental laboratory management more accessible. Thanks to the generosity of Heraeus Kulzer, both individuals had their tuition fee to attend NADL University (NADL U) this September in Tempe, Arizona covered as part of this grant. The cost to attend NADL U would typically be $1,800.
