Return to "normal": A disaster in the making?

We can—and must—overcome this micron-sized, invisible Covid-19 demon that takes lives and kills businesses. All of us—especially our leaders—need to accept the essential truth: We are at war.

Leaders need to say repeatedly: This is a war; a war that must be won. The goal is to protect lives, safely open both commerce and education... and ultimately, eliminate the virus. Each of us must focus on the goal: Win the War.

This is a not a short-term challenge. We are not fighting a seasonal flu bug. We are fighting a vicious, viral murderer. We cannot return to our prior “normal,” but we can create a new “normal” by taking individual responsibility. Each of us needs to put war strategies into practice to defeat this enemy.

Like it or not, we need to do battle, every day. We must be committed and disciplined. We must use personal protection, apply physical distancing,...
