My Extra Degree: Precise Margins

“My margins sell my work; they’re what my doctors comment on most often,” says Dusty Owens, Owner, Oakledge Dental Studio, a solo operation in Loma, CO. “I believe temperature fluctuation of materials affects the fit of the margins so I keep a diary of each casting or pressing. I track the material ratio I used, how the crowns fit and what I might want to change for the next mix. I also store the liquids and powder in a wine refrigerator to keep them at exactly 65o which I think also contributes to the accuracy. I use a microscope for all my work and my margins are right on. I think that has kept me in business for the last 41 years, along with a few prayers."
