How I Learned to Address Workplace Conflict Issues Head On

I’ve been a manager in the dental field for almost 20 years and recently learned a valuable lesson about myself and my ego.
One of my most valued staff members and I had a verbal disagreement. She questioned one of my decisions, harsh words were exchanged and she left for the day.
I found myself harboring resentment and wondering, “Is this how I really should be feeling? Could my management skills be that shallow?” I avoided contact with her; “Good mornings” were sparse and short.
Several months passed and she was up for her annual review. I gave her our self-evaluation review form to complete, while thinking “tough review ahead.” She never returned the form.
