A Challenging Single Central Requires Tissue Buildup

This was a challenging but interesting single central implant case. The patient injured tooth #9 while playing sports as a child; eventually it fell out and he was missing a tooth for several years. My dentist-client, Dr. David Geen, and I decided to restore with a Straumann Variobase implant and a hybrid restoration with a titanium base and zirconia abutment.
Since the patient had gum recession and we didn’t want #9 to look too long, I custom designed the abutment to support a tissue porcelain buildup and created the tissue using GC Creation powder in shades G2 and G3. I hand waxed the crown then pressed using a GC Lisi HT57 ingot. There wasn’t much room, so I did a 0.3mm cutback on the labial and used the micro-layering technique to achieve high translucency and characterization.
