It is amazing how far technology has come. Coming from the perspective of a Recognized Graduate of an Accredited Dental Laboratory Program, Certified Dental Technician, owner of Griffin Dental Laboratories and current instructor at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry and founder of GDL University. I can see how 3D printing is helping the dental industry as a whole. Though the implementation of 3D printing is being taught in schools it is still the Certified Dental Technicians that are being sought after to create these one of a kind restorations for patients. Be it in the office or in labs. The graduating dentist are learning how to utilize the intraoral scanners to be able to send impressions to the labs. They visit labs to see how much care and skills be it traditional or digital goes into the restorations that they are placing. They are continually looking for ways to improve their quality for their patients and this is why it is important to continue to educate your dentist. Though there are some that will adopt 3D printing technology. There are many that smile everytime they see how much work goes into not only the design but also the process when they place their restorations. From a year and five months ago had anyone told me that I would be in a position to influence and mentor dentist about my love for dental technology the way I have, I would have said no way but, I have. I'm doing it and they understand that we all have a role to play in the patients treatment. So instead of worrying if all the work will be 3D printed in house, start thinking ahead to the quality and qualifications that you all have that gave you the opportunity to get here. And imagine all the new possibilities out there. It's our time to shine just by adding the digital platform to theirs and our workflow we can provide better fitting restorations for the patient. Though keep in mind esthetics is not a given it is acquired and practiced. If you think about just that one phrase you will see a new door opening up right in front of you. And perhaps more longevity in our field of dental technology. Thanks for the platform LMT and Kelly Carr for the amazing article.
