State of the Implant Market: Strong and Steady

Similar to LMT’s Implant Surveys dating back to 2008, the majority of respondents to LMT’s 2016 survey* rate their implant workload as “good” or “booming.” Also remaining consistent over the past eight years: the percentage of respondents’ total workload that’s implant related (about 25%) and the percentage of their dentist-clients sending implant work (approximately 65%).
About 60% of respondents say their implant services are more profitable than other prosthetic work because of the knowledge and skill required to restore them as well as the markup potential. “If we order any parts or send out for a custom-milled abutment, we can charge a premium which results in a larger profit margin than a standard PFM or zirconia crown,” says David Henderson, Manager, Star Dental Ceramics, Tempe, AZ.
