Small Business Conf idence High Despite Chronic Personnel Shortage

Since 2017, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and MetLife have collaborated in an effort to elevate the voice of America’s small business owners and highlight the important role they play in the nation’s economy. Every quarter, they survey small business owners about their expectations and outlook regarding the economy, sales, employment and other business-related factors and release an index figure indicating the overall level of optimism.
The Q3 Index reveals some encouraging news: it’s 69.2, up from 63.1 last quarter and the highest rating since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, according to the survey, one-third of small business respondents say the economy is in good health—which is a 9-point bump from last quarter—and 66% say that their own business is in good health.
