Russell DeVreugd, CDT, DTG: Mentor, Friend and Educator

Although he was a familiar, friendly face at industry events, I first really got to know Russ DeVreugd in 2001 when he wrote an article for LMT about his well-regarded Occlusal Compass Concept. He was passionate about occlusion and the idea that all technicians must understand how function relates to the lingual morphology of the anterior teeth and the effect it has on the TMJ joint and occlusal morphology of posterior teeth. He was patient and amazing at simplifying what I considered to be a complicated subject.
Russ was revered in our community and when he passed away in April, there was an outpouring of emotion and tributes from his industry friends:
