Milled Gold Crowns: A Step-by-Step Look
Posted Oct 30, 2014 in Technical
Laboratory Owner Michael Suris has recently started using Strategy Milling©’s services to mill full contour gold crowns and bridges for Dental Professional Labs, Inc. in Merrillville, IN. A division of Atlantic Precious Metal Refining, Strategy Milling’s service saves a substantial amount of bench time, eliminates the need to stock gold alloys and delivers restorations that require minimal finishing and polishing. Here, Suris offers a step-by-step look at fabricating a milled gold posterior crown.
Restorative Challenge
The patient had a crossbite in the posterior area. The doctor prescribed a gold crown due to the malocclusion and requested a design with a slightly smaller occlusal table to reduce the forces placed on the front teeth. Consequently, the smaller space enabled us to decrease the amount of metal required for a typical full-sized crown (Strategy Milling only charges the customer for the alloy used in the milled restoration).
