Key Trends at IDS 2025: 3D Printing, Chairside Solutions and Patient Education

Managing Editor Kim Molinaro and I had an amazing time at the IDS in Cologne, Germany, in March. Our goal—admittedly a lofty one—was to visit as many of the 2,000-plus Exhibitors as possible, discover what’s new and give you a peek at what’s coming down the pike.
Among the most unique emerging technologies we saw: a prototype of imes-icore’s Mythos, a combined system that mills and 3D prints a variety of materials; a preview of 3D Systems’ non-linear 3D printing technology that creates parts in an arc so there are fewer supports to grind off; and HoloDentist, holographic technology that displays a virtual patient while wearing a mixed-reality device.
