How 3D Printing Improves RPD Production, Product Quality and Quality of Life

After fabricating RPDs using conventional methods for 30 years, Gill Egan, Managing Director of Egan Dental Laboratory, a five-person removable prosthetic laboratory in Ripon, U.K., was eager to embrace digital technology. “I’d seen how technology completely transformed the crown and bridge world and knew it would ultimately have the same impact on removable prosthetics. I love anything new and couldn’t wait to try the latest technology,” she says.
In 2015, she visited the IDS show in Germany to learn more about scanning and 3D printing. Since she is a Key Opinion Leader for Ivoclar Vivadent, the company loaned her a 3Shape scanner to get started. Being an early adopter of digitally designing RPDs in the U.K., she felt there wasn’t a lot of training available but was determined to learn how to scan and design on her own.
