Attendees Kickstart Learning at Friday Business Think Tank

Compensation strategies, productivity benchmarks, sales, marketing, quality control strategies and product growth areas were the key topics tackled at Lab Faster, Smarter, Better: Business Think Tank on Friday, September 16, the day before LMT LAB DAY East. In a roundtable format, moderators kicked off each topic by sharing their own experiences as the 36 participants joined in.
For instance, moderator Chris Waldrop, CDT, explained how Burdette Dental Lab transitioned from hourly to by-the-unit pay in 2004. Despite a 17% increase in productivity, the lab ultimately went back to hourly pay, largely due to quality control challenges. Attendees agreed that getting technicians to continue to focus on quality rather than quantity and keeping up morale were key problems with piecework.
