Albensi Laboratories Optimizes Workflow in New Facility

Thanks to Albensi Laboratories’ rapid growth in the digital arena in the past five years, the lab has increased its business 12-15% each year. It now has five scanners, seven mills and three 3D printers.
The downside? The lab quickly outgrew its existing 11,000-sq-ft facility in Pittsburgh, PA. “At one point, the building was sufficient but as we kept adding digital equipment, we reached a point where it got too crowded and the workflow was inefficient and chaotic. We had to make a move,” says Don Albensi, Sr., CDT, Owner of the 94-employee lab now located in Irwin, PA.
In February 2013, he purchased a 60,000-sq-ft building, half of which houses the lab; the other half is rented out to a restaurant. The lab’s production departments are on the 20,000-sq-ft ground floor while the remaining 10,000-sq-ft area is a mezzanine that will ultimately house the marketing, inside sales and customer care departments as well as a conference room.
