Eight years ago I had a run-in with the United States Post Office. Out of the blue, postage for mailing our magazine skyrocketed. Of course, inquiring minds want to know so I was on the phone in no time to let them know a mistake had been made. (There was no question in my mind that it was their mistake not ours!)
Someone at the post office claimed our issue contained over 73% advertising. That’s a no-no and we know that. Regulations require that, in order to qualify for lower postage rates than catalogs, the advertising content cannot exceed the amount of editorial content. We had provided them with the percentages they needed from us but our numbers differed tremendously from theirs.
