How she got her start: I graduated from college with an art degree—my focus was on ceramics and painting—and was waiting tables to make ends meet. I saw an ad for an entry-level opaquing position at O’Brien and was intrigued, so I answered it and was hired. I didn’t know anything about the laboratory world so it was a bit of a culture shock. The lab gave me a lot of on-the-job training; my background in art was a big help, too. 


Favorite part of the job: Every case is different. I love having to figure out which porcelains or opaques to use and how to enhance esthetics and achieve the right shade.
