2022 How's Business Survey Report: Amid Economic Uncertainty, Majority of Labs Report Sound Fiscal Fitness

Despite inflation hitting a 40-year high this summer, more than two-thirds of laboratories are in sound fiscal condition, according to LMT’s 2022 How’s Business Survey. In fact, 36% of laboratory operators say their businesses’ economic health is “excellent” and another 31% say it’s “good”.


Interestingly, this data is very similar to an LMT survey conducted in 2020 just weeks before COVID lockdowns when respondents were equally favorable about their economic health, implying those who weathered the COVID-19 storm have bounced back from the worst of the pandemic’s ramifications.


More good news: sales are up for over half of participating laboratories; nearly one quarter say sales are “markedly up” during the first half of the year compared to 2021 and another 30% say sales are “slightly up.” Several respondents comment their labs are growing and a few even acknowledge having to...
