Weeky Web Tip: Linking with Complementary Products

One of the criteria that google assesses the strength of your website is with backlinks. These are links on other web pages that direct people to your site. A backlink can have different weight with the google bot that crawls your site. If you have a link on a page that is only viewed by 5 people a month it will improve you ranking slightly, if you have a link on a page that has 5000 visitors a month it will improve your google ranking much more.

Some sites use spam to increase their backlinks, that’s why you get those comments on blogs that don’t make any sense and aren’t relevant, because more backlinks is still more backlinks and adds to your total google score. Links to your page from random sites might help the google rank slightly but a complementary page link will drive actual people who want, to know more about you.

An example of a relevant backlink would be getting your dental laboratory link on your state dental association. A dentist could be navigating through dental labs registered with the dental lab association and then from there navigate to your page. Here are a list of complementary ideas for dental labs:

Local and national dental lab associations

Dental lab magazines (LMT for example)

Facebook related pages to dentsts/dental labs

Compliance sites promoting FDA, ISO, DAMAS etc.

Dental lab networks like the bridge, dental lab network etc.

Find a page that relates to what you do and the traffic to your site will already be interested in what you do. To get a link placed onto the site you’ll have to contact the page owner and get them to update the page. Reciprocal links is when 2 pages backlink each other to help both pages improve rank and share traffic, who you link with and promote is only restricted by your imagination.

The weekly web tip is to motivate and open discussion on dental lab web sites, feel free to comment on your opinion or experiences.
