Challenge: Working with Recent Dental School Grads
Strategy: In the last 25 years, there’s been a 28% increase in dental school enrollment, creating a nice pool of potential new customers. A diverse roster of clients is always an important ingredient in a healthy business, but as baby-boomer dentists eye retirement, the issue is coming front and center. Many lab owners are making it a point to seek out new graduates and believe providing them with extra attention now promotes loyalty in the future.
For example, Utah Valley Dental Lab, Lindon, UT, created the Young Dentist Program, a mentoring and education program aimed at helping new practicing dentists. The program—open to dentists who have been out of school no more than five years—consists of three educational weekends over a six- to eight-month period and is conducted by well-known educator Dr. David Hornbrook, who is Director of Education and Technology at the lab.
