Scott Gallacher, CDT: Pouring His Heart and Soul into Product Development
Posted May 16, 2022 in Labs & Profiles
What do Diamond Articulators, Caterpillar™ shoelaces and the Smuggle Mug® have in common? They’re all inventions patented by Scott Gallacher, CDT.
Gallacher has a distinctive ability to conceptualize product design and engineering principles and create hypothetical ways of testing design and functionality all in his head. “It’s a skill Einstein referred to as ‘thought experiment’,” he says.
A serial inventor, Gallacher started developing consumer-oriented products in the mid-1990s largely based on personal needs. For instance, he designed the Caterpillar shoelaces to help his son learn to tie his shoes and the Smuggle Mug (an insulated mug with a hidden flask) to bring rum and coke to his poker games. The Smuggle Mug and Gallacher’s similar products—the BoozeBrella® and ShamBooze® flasks—are designed for bringing alcohol into concerts, football games and cruise ships.
