Microwave Convenience: 3-Minute Cure to Denture Woes
Posted May 31, 2016 in Technical
Our most valuable resource is time; this is especially true when it comes to expedited services such as immediate dentures, surgical guides and processed baseplates, etc. For the laboratory that offers expedited turnaround times, having a system in place that delivers predictable, consistent results for such services is critical.
One method that greatly reduces processing times is microwave technology. Although there’s been some debate about the effect it has on resin properties and dimensional accuracy, studies find that dentures cured by different microwave cycles exhibited no significant differences than those cured using the water bath method.1-9 I’ve had great success with this technique and GC’s FRP flask, Fujirock® IMP and NATURE-CRYL® MC, an acrylic resin specially created for microwave curing.
The Microwave Process
Step 1: Invest the mandibular waxup in the GC FRP flask with vacuum-mixed GC Fujirock IMP.
