Labs Say Quality of Intraoral Scans is Improving

Fifty-nine percent of laboratories now accept digital impressions and most laud the technology for streamlining workflows and allowing them to shorten their turnaround. Currently, they consider about one quarter of the intraoral scans they receive to be inadequate; however, most say the quality of these scans is improving thanks to more training and evolving technology.
“Initially there were poor attempts at moisture control and dentists didn’t fully understand the technology,” says Michael Pointer, who just retired as the Owner of Dental Artistry, Wichita, KS. “They’re getting better overall because new dentists are learning the process in dental school and other dentists are seeking out continuing education to become more comfortable with the technique.”
