STEP 2
Rather than immediately fabricating the case based on the dentist’s temporaries, Chiha decided to come up with two other options: he did a traditional waxup of the four crowns and also scanned the model and designed the crowns in his exocad software (shown above). He and Dr. Ayzin then compared the conventional waxup, CAD/CAM design, and model of the temporaries so they could pick the best of the three. They ultimately chose the CAD/CAM option because they felt it offered the best esthetics and functionality.
Restorative Problem and Treatment Plan
A 72-year-old female patient presented with broken incisal edges on teeth #7-10. She wanted to restore the esthetics of her smile.
Jean Chiha, CDT, and Michael Ayzin, DDS, Dentistry at Its Finest, Costa Mesa, CA, decided on four Noritake KATANA Zirconia crowns for the most esthetic and functional rehabilitation possible. They chose the new KATANA Zirconia STML A1 because it makes high-end esthetics easier and more predictable. Its translucency and multi-layered features provide ease of fabrication as well as precision and durability.
