Twelve years ago, Stavros—who only goes by his first name—was making the circuit at sci-fi and horror conventions, trying to sell his vampire novels when he met a man who made vampire fangs. “Through him, I discovered there was an actual profession known as fangsmith; who knew?” says Stavros with a laugh.
Intrigued by the craft, Stavros underwent a three-day intensive training from a New Jersey-based fangsmith before taking a chance and making his own fangs to sell alongside his novels at conventions. Before long, “bit” by the fangsmith bug, he set aside writing and pursued making fangs as his full-time occupation, opening Kaos Kustom Fangs, which now resides in Corrales, NM.
Stavros fabricates about 80 fangs a month for customers all over the world, though during the Halloween season, he can make upwards of 450. He sells them via mail order and sends customers a kit to take their own alginate impression. Once Stavros...
