Digital Impressions: How One Lab is Getting its Clients On Board

About five years ago, The Dental Laboratory Group (DLG) was well on its way to becoming a digital operation. The Staten Island, NY, facility had invested in several scanners and 3D printers and had even opened a milling center on site, but President Keith Pillarella knew the key to becoming a fully digital lab was to get his clients to go digital along with him.
However, his clients—like many dentists—were not so eager, balking at the cost or the learning curve or failing to see the advantage of intraoral scanning. “It’s a tough sell to have our clients switch to digital methodologies, but we feel the industry is heading in the direction of digital impressions so we had to make them believers,” says Lena Alwari, Vice President of Operations.
