Celebrating 40 Years!

The year was 1984. Ronald Reagan was President, Apple had just started selling the Macintosh computer and gas was about $1.10 per gallon—and Judy Fishman created LMT. In fact, September 1984 was our inaugural issue so with this current issue, we enthusiastically begin our 40th year in business!
As LMT joins the more than 50% of laboratories that have been in business for at least 40 years, it occurs to me there are a lot of parallels between our businesses. For instance—like many labs—LMT got its start in Judy’s basement (with one clunky Compaq computer—we couldn’t afford a MAC!). Like you, we’ve explored new avenues and services, struggled with finding the right staff members and withstood the challenges of growth. Also like you, we’ve experienced so much change in the past four decades, including the digital revolution in publishing which completely transformed the way we work and produce the magazine.
