DPS Adds Twinkle to Dentist-Client’s Smile
When a patient—one of Dental Prosthetic Services’ dentist-clients—requested a 3-mm round synthetic emerald set into an 18-karat gold implant crown on tooth #12, Dennis Becker, CDT, Vice President of Operations & Technical Development for the Cedar Rapids, IA laboratory, knew how to make it happen. Here’s his technique:
“I worked with the dentist-patient to determine placement of the gem on the tooth, then designed the crown, milled it out of wax and brought the wax pattern to a local jeweler. We don’t often have requests for gems in crowns—typically only about once a year—but when we do, I want to partner with an expert.
“The jeweler selected a stone that fit the patient’s specifications and placed a divot in the wax for the stone. We then cast the crown in the lab and returned it to the jeweler.
