When he used to work at a large lab in downtown Louisville, KY, Bennett BecVar, CDT, would dream all week about spending the weekend by the lake. These days, he doesn't have to wait that long: he now lives—and works—on the lake in Borden, IN, and can enjoy it at a moment's notice.

A technician for over 30 years, LaRocque started his 750-sq-ft lab in the basement of his home in 1989 and it's no dark, dreary cellar—the spacious, well-lit lab is the perfect size for giving his clients local, personalized service.

Two years ago, when his long-time landlord retired, the building that housed Ted Shearer, CDT’s lab came under the management of her son and negotiations on his lease quickly turned sour. “Since we are ‘empty nesters,’ my wife suggested I move the lab to the house,” says Shearer, Owner of TRS Dental Technologies, Pleasant Hill, CA.
