Sintering Translucent Zirconia: Materials Update
Note: This seminar is from a past LAB DAY show
It’s important to understand the material properties of the new gradient versions of translucent zirconia. These materials offer an optimum combination of strength and esthetics but sintering parameters play a critical role in developing those esthetics, especially for anterior monolithic crowns. The materials behave differently depending on the surface treatment and composition of dopant (Yttria). Dr. Anvita Maharishi covers the mechanical and optical properties of translucent zirconia; the effect of different sintering protocols on grain size and microstructure development which directly affects the strength, wear and translucency; and also compares these with other popular all-ceramic restorative materials.
