New versions of zirconia on the market are much more translucent than original zirconia. Interest has been directed to specialized or shortened firing techniques for CUZR (cubic zirconia). Dr. Edward McLaren reviews the relationship of time and temperature to translucency and chroma development and how that can be controlled to obtain a predictable result in less than 60 minutes’ firing time. He also presents customization techniques he uses with these new CUZR materials, both pre- and post-sintering.
