Provide Healthy Snacks

Bagels and doughnuts used to be commonplace at the monthly employee appreciation event at DenMat in Lompoc, CA. But five years ago, in an effort to encourage healthier snack options, the company started providing a selection of fresh fruit for each meeting. “You wouldn’t believe it, but people come running for it,” says Carol Newberry, Executive Administrator. The employees are also periodically treated to free strawberries from a local farmer who brings in different varieties for taste tests and feedback. 

The 350-employee operation also has an on-site Avanti Market, which looks like a small convenience store. Run by an outside company, the self-service market is stocked with healthy snacks like fruit, salad, nuts and protein bars and employees can load money onto their key fob and simply swipe to purchase.
