Last summer, Nicole Jackson, CDT, got the golden opportunity to become the full-time Lead Instructor at Milwaukee Area Technical College Dental Technology Program, the very same one-year technical diploma program she had graduated from 18 years earlier.
Formerly a lead technician and operations manager at Nik Dental in Pewaukee, WI, Jackson is passionate about continuing education and jumped at the chance to share her enthusiasm with the next generation of dental technicians.
Despite not having any teaching experience, she felt right at home the minute she walked into the classroom, which is setup exactly like a lab. Though there was an established curriculum, Jackson put her own spin on things: “To inspire more engagement, I put a lot of my personality into my delivery, injecting the lectures with my own individual experiences in the laboratory,” she says.
