LMT's Exclusive 2014 Wage Survey Report: Market Uncertainty Continues to Impact Personnel

Nearly three quarters of respondents to our 2014 Wage Survey have taken cost-cutting measures related to personnel in the last two years, citing unpredictable workflows, pricing pressure from dentists and other low-cost labs, and an increase in business costs. The most common measures respondents are taking include freezing pay raises, cutting hours, laying off technicians or reducing/eliminating overtime.
“As the dental industry continues to drive prices down and the costs of benefits and materials continue to increase, it is increasingly difficult to give well-deserved raises and bonuses,” says the owner of a large, full service lab in the East North Central region.
In addition, although 43% of respondents saw an uptick in business in the first quarter of 2014, given the inconsistent business they’ve seen the last few years, many describe their outlook as “hesitant”...
