“My biggest takeaway from art school was learning how to translate what I’m seeing to my hands; I’m doing the same now, mimicking nature, but it’s functional,” says Jamie Rubin, RG.
After earning her fine arts degree, Rubin’s intended career as a sculptor took a turn toward dental technology at the suggestion of her mother and brother, both dentists. At 28, she enrolled at New York City College of Technology (NYCCT). “I instantly fell in love; I was ‘all in’ and absorbed everything I could,” says Rubin, who earned multiple honors and awards during her studies.
Following graduation, she was offered the opportunity to launch CAD/CAM technology at an in-house practice (SDNY Dental in New York, NY where she still works today as a technician and Digital Dentistry Supervisor), but NYCCT wasn’t done with her yet.
Just two years later, she accepted an adjunct lecturer position starting in Spring 2020....
