How I Changed My Career Thanks to a Wild Game Feed

About 20 years ago, I was invited to a wild game feed—a potluck dinner featuring deer, boar, elk, etc.—that turned into a career-changing meal. Almost all of the attendees were dentists and I had a discussion with Dr. Stephen Johnston who mentioned he liked the concept of working side by side with a technician to treat patients.
It has always been my dream to own a clinic to serve the public directly so this conversation stuck in my mind. Fast forward to 2015: I owned a removable lab, Lakeview Dental Service, in my home in Onalaska, WI, when I became aware of the Wisconsin Dental Practice Act that permits anyone to own a clinic provided a licensed dentist is affiliated with it. So, I opened Denture Smart Dental Service, also in Onalaska, which fabricates complete dentures. Dr. Johnston is on staff part-time and is able to diagnose, take impressions and treatment plan in accordance with Wisconsin law.
