Are U.S. Dental Schools Technology-Ready?

The Center for Research and Technology in Education (CRET)—a group that helps dental schools integrate innovative equipment and products into their curriculum—recently shared the results of its 2017 Technological Readiness Assessment of Dental Schools.
While CRET acknowledges a response rate of just 11% (seven universities), it feels the study may reveal some “valuable qualitative and quantitative information” about dental schools and technology in general. For instance:
- Six of the seven schools have a director of digital dentistry, committee or person working on developing specific plans for acquiring emerging technologies.
- Six say faculty members discuss digital technologies to help students understand clinical dentistry.
- Four schools have digital training programs in place for faculty.
