Understanding & Categorizing Color: An Introduction to Intentional Staining for Recreating Natural Harmony

Staining is both an art and a science; a careful balance of observation, understanding and intention. When we move beyond habit and understand how color, value and translucency interact, every restoration becomes an opportunity to recreate natural harmony.
My staining skills drastically improved only after I began having meaningful discussions with educators to understand why their technique worked for them. My goal with this article is to encourage intentional, informed techniques when staining both monolithic and porcelain-layered restorations and share how I use the VITA AKZENT PLUS kit which is my preferred staining kit.
