Structure Your Approach
“I believe every technician has different strengths so I focus on understanding each person’s capacity and skill level. I always talk about ‘capacity’ because I want to ensure the workload and responsibility match the individual’s current ability. For example, if someone is learning porcelain work, I start with single units and focus on the fundamentals, form, margin and occlusion. I avoid overwhelming him with difficult color cases at the beginning. Once he builds confidence and consistency, I gradually increase complexity. This structured approach allows people to improve naturally without unnecessary stress.”

Carve Out Time
“To fit in training, I start trainees on a part-time schedule for the first week or two, scheduling them from 9am-2pm. That way I can still get my work done before and after spending time with them. I also have some of the senior technicians take over after I do the initial training, depending on what position the trainee is hired for.”
