The crowns were milled in Lava Plus High Translucency zirconia using a Lava mill. In its unsintered...See more state, the material is approximately 20% larger than the final result, allowing me to use smaller burs to produce very fine detail that simply isn't possible on a 1:1 basis. After milling, the restorations were dipped in Lava™ Plus Dyeing Liquid. Upon completion of sintering, the restorations were stained with Vita Akzent Plus staining liquid, giving the final units a lifelike appearance.

Full coverage monolithic zirconia crowns were prescribed using 3M™ ESPE™ Lava™ Plus High Translucency Zirconia. I chose this material for its shade matching potential and overall esthetic appeal. Lava Plus zirconia is highly translucent and has 18 dyeing liquids that cover the 16 VITA® classical shades A1-D4 and two bleach shades. In addition, its high strength allows dentists to create preps that preserve tooth structure, and 3M ESPE data shows that the zirconia is not abraded or roughened under occlusal load.
