Instructor/Dental Technician

The appointee shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the university’s missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service. The duties of this position include:

Participate in the didactic education of dental students and house staff as assigned by the Curriculum Committee and Chair; supervision of dental students performing dental laboratory procedures in support of clinic treatment

Establish and maintain a program of scholarly activity to include supervision of research performed by students.

Participate in departmental activities

Provide assistance to the Associate Dean for Clinic Affairs in managing the operation of dental and simulation labs, including the supervision of student operation, maintenance and replacement of equipment.

Coordinate clinical cases being completed by outside labs; review cases for quality prior to sending to and upon receipt from external labs; work with providers to ensure quality standards are met; make recommendations to clinic administration regarding service level and quality from external laboratories.

Maintain implant components inventory. Coordinate purchasing and grant programs for implants.

Maintain CAD-CAM equipment and materials inventory. Operate CAD-CAM systems (including imaging and milling units) and provide training and assistance to students and faculty.

Read prescriptions or specifications and examine models or impressions to determine the design of dental products to be constructed.

Utilizes and conserves supplies and equipment by completing plaster casting, electro-spot welding, metal casting, metal polishing, wax modeling, ceramics, wire bending, electroplating and sandblasting; using CAD/CAM units; maintaining supplies inventories; keeping equipment operating.
