Valplast International Corp. previewed its new solution for fabricating digital dentures for existing CAD/CAM users. Platinum 3D enables labs to scan, design and manufacture digital full dentures in-house without the need to outsource any components and use the scanning, milling or printing equipment of their choice.
The Platinum 3D product line features Valplast’s new Platinum Series brand of multi-layered, nano-filled PMMA denture teeth, and a digital library of 3D tooth models that will be made available to all Platinum 3D denture tooth customers. The digital tooth library will be made available first to 3Shape clients for use with their full denture design module. Other systems are also being explored for use with the new digital tooth library.
Here’s how it works: the lab imports the denture tooth library into its CAD software and designs the denture. Then, the lab can mill a final resin denture base with sockets for the Valplast denture teeth which are cemented into the...
Established in 1983, 55-technician Van Hook Dental Studio in Tempe, AZ, specializes in full mouth reconstruction and implants and is taking the lead in the surgical support arena.
Since a large percentage of its dentist-clients are specialists, Van Hook is a complete dental imaging center facility that serves their surgical needs. The facility has a state-of-the-art I-Cat CBCT scanner that’s used for surgical and orthodontic scanning, implant planning and surgical guides.
“Starting with only a CBCT scan, we’re able to combine multiple files to design and fabricate a final restoration,” explains Don Van Hook, Co-Owner of the laboratory, with his wife, Kim. “Keeping a foot in both the surgical and restorative process, we are able to streamline and control the communication to all parties involved, which is critical to the success of these large, complex implant cases.”
With clinical advisor Dr. Leonard Gordon and his certified dental assistant on...

In 2004, New Image/Laboratory Solutions became the first 3M ESPE Lava Milling Center on the East Coast. Victor Harp, an up-and-coming waxer/finisher, learned the system and wowed everyone with how quickly he picked up the digital process. "He was like a kid in a candy store playing with the machine and got great results right from the start," says Fay Ashley, Customer Relations Manager.
The laboratory immediately began accepting outsourcing cases and Harp was chosen to head the department which has since grown to seven staff members and produces up to 600 units a week.
The success of the department has a lot to do with Victor's work ethic. "Some people just punch the clock but Victor really cares about the work that goes out," says Ashley. For instance, when the new division was first getting off the ground, Victor—a one-man department—frequently put in 70-hour workweeks. More recently, the lab has been experiencing power surges due to weather which cause the milling machines...
Holly Garvin from Dental Associates in Appleton, WI (pictured) and Alex Sakovich from Smile Builders in Palatine, IL, were lucky winners of an iPAD Air in Vident’s LAB DAY Chicago drawing. Anyone who attended a Vident clinic at the show had the chance to enter to win; an entry form was included in a pre-show mailer, making it easy for attendees to choose from six Vident clinics—covering everything from full contour zirconia to removable dentures—and complete the form and drop the entry in the raffle box at LAB DAY.
Vident introduced VITA Enamic, a hybrid dental ceramic combining the properties of ceramic and composite materials. Its dominant ceramic structure and reinforcing polymer network offer high fracture load capacity, high levels of elasticity and integrated crack prevention. "This innovative material has the potential to revolutionize what clinicians think about their CAD/CAM material choices and accelerate their CAD/CAM adoption rate. The simple mill, polish and place process of Enamic dramatically reduces chairtime and improves productivity," said Fred Ketcho, CEO. "And the fantastic clinical properties for which VITA is known makes Enamic a powerful addition to our stable of CAD/CAM products."
Available exclusively through Patterson Dental, Enamic CAD/CAM blocks can be milled using the Sirona CEREC and inLab systems and are suitable for fabricating inlays, onlays, veneers, anterior and posterior crowns, crowns over implants, as well as minimally invasive restorations such as no-prep veneers...
VITA North America displayed its new VITA YZ HT discs. Due to its high strength (approximately 1,200 MPa) and excellent light refraction properties, the highly translucent zirconia is ideal for monolithic crown and bridge restorations. It’s a cost-effective, tooth-colored alternative to non-precious metal and partially veneered metal restorations. For exact shade reproduction, VITA YZ HT Shade Liquids and the VITA Akzent Plus stains are available. The 98-mm discs are available in 1M2, 2M2, 3M2 or A1, A2, A3 shades, and 14-mm and 18-mm thicknesses.
The VITA VACUMAT 6000 M Special Edition furnace is now available in Jet Black, Pure White, Carmine Red, Turquoise Blue and Sky Blue. It features precision-controlled fast cooling, power failure protection and automatic temperature adjustment. It’s available in two feature-rich control units: the vPad Comfort LED features 500 programs and “one touch” operation, and the vPad Excellence LED has 1,000 programs and can control...
LMT travelled to Vident's Brea, California facility to learn first-hand about the significant change to its distribution practices: the company is now selling its premium denture teeth lines exclusively through dealers.
