Following an agreement between DENTSPLY Implants and Align Technology, laboratories offering ATLANTIS patient-specific abutments can order them based upon scans from the iTero intraoral scanner starting in the second half of 2014. “Moving forward in this expanding area of digital dentistry, dental scanning is a strategic business opportunity and, more importantly, we are creating added value for our customers and their patients,” said Mikael Sander, Group Vice President ATLANTIS Digital Implant Solutions, DENTSPLY Implants.
DENTSPLY Implants also presented the ASTRA TECH Implant System EV, designed with a site-specific, crown-down approach based on the natural dentition for increased surgical simplicity and flexibility and restorative ease. This philosophy is supported by features such as a unique interface with one-position-only placement of ATLANTIS patient-specific abutments.
The foundation of the system remains the ASTRA TECH Implant System BioManagement Complex—a...

York, PA--Introducing the two new premium Multimat® NTX and NTXPRESS units. Both furnaces include programs for firing porcelain. The NTXPRESS also presses all-ceramics, including lithium disilicates. These furnaces provide easy program customization, and excellent reliability for brilliant, consistent firing results. Multimat models are equipped with an even-heating coil, protected by a Quartz glass tube, to ensure homogeneous heat distribution within the chamber. A vacuum pump is complimentary with each unit's purchase.
The Multimat supplementary, real-time controller assists the main CPU in providing extra power and a highly-precise temperature curve. With NTX PC software, select from the 1,000 standard programs, or conveniently create and administer firing and pressing files and programs for subsequent transfer to one, or multiple furnaces via USB sticks. The logical folder program structure intuitively guides the operator through all menu levels, directly to the desired program....

Dentsply's TruRx is now available as a mobile app for the iPhone® and iPad®. The TruRx seven-step process guides the dental office through all the key information labs need to make a high quality denture. In addition to capturing detailed prescription information, a patient photo can be included in the TruRx prescription. Once the TruRx consultation is completed, the designated lab receives an Advanced Prescription Notice via email, allowing it to more efficiently manage tooth inventory and workflow.
At the show, LAB DAY attendees also got a sneak peek of the new Multimat® NTX & NTXPRESS porcelain furnaces for firing/pressing the most popular ceramic systems on the market today, including lithium disilicates. These two modern-designed and German-manufactured furnaces provide consistent firing results. The improved PC program software permits users to navigate and customize files and programs with ease. A complimentary vacuum pump is provided with each Multimat NTX furnace...

Since launching AvaDent Digital Dentures last fall, Global Dental Science has milled close to 2,000 arches. The dentures are currently being marketed directly to dentists; a laboratory partnership model is in the works.
"With AvaDent Digital Dentures, we are changing the entire fabrication process for removable prosthetics. This digital platform reduces processing time for the patient and dentist; improves fit, function and esthetics; and has tremendous future potential for implants, immediate dentures, bars and integration with cone beam CT scans," says Andy Jakson, Vice President of Clinical Development at Global Dental Science; he is also a laboratory owner.
For the past three years, Global Dental Science—a Scottsdale, AZ company focused on process automation for dental procedures—has been developing software for digitally designing dentures and a process for milling the denture base and setting conventional denture teeth into the base. The company launched AvaDent...

The rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated.
Mark Twain's words—repeated by Dentsply's Chris Clark—appropriately describe the gist of the Cal-Lab Group's 86th annual meeting in Chicago. Or, to use Clark's own words, "The lab market is here to stay.
"There's been a lot of gloom and doom of late, with some saying laboratories are headed for extinction. But this market is viable and strategic, and you provide the dentist with services, partnership, education, technical expertise and a knowledge base that can't be duplicated," said Clark, President and COO of Dentsply, to more than 800 attendees.
Adding to the positive outlook, Clark cited several factors driving growth, including an aging population, new technology, the recognized link between dental health and systemic health, and the ever-growing cosmetic demand. "All-ceramics are growing faster than PFMs, removable partials faster than full dentures, metal-free partials faster than cast frameworks, clear aligners...
